«Northanger Abbey» is a novel by the English writer Jane Austen (1775–1817), written in the Gothic style fashionable at the time with irony characteristic of the author. Seventeen-year-old Catherine Morland is fascinated by the romance of «gothic novels» and often imagines herself as the heroine of such works. While vacationing at a resort where she was invited by rich friends, Catherine meets Henry Tilney and falls in love with him.
